I've been abducted by a creative distraction... While I should be concentrating on finishing the first draft of my first novel, I've been distracted by an opportunity to exercise some writing creativity - in the form of a short story writing contest. Being a short story contest I found it easy to give it a go without it being too much of a distraction. I am finding it a creative relief as I can break away from my novel storyline, which seems to be fixed - like I'm on train tracks, speeding along to my final destination. The short story contest has a subject matter and genre totally different to my incomplete novel - being a science fiction story about alien abduction. Procrastination doesn't always have to be a bad thing - as long as I don't get fatigue.
